6月7日下午，田小刚公参在北京会见了欧美同学会留英分会谭铁牛会长。会见中田公参介绍了目前在英国的中国留学生的主要状况，谭铁牛会长也介绍了欧美同学会留英分会第六届理事会的主要工作情况，双方还就今后可能的合作进行了有益的探讨。留英分会常务副会长陈灏、副会长兼秘书长马琪会见时在座。

7月13日，应艾塞克斯大学校长Colin Riordan教授的邀请，田小刚公参、祁品伟、张总明老师对艾塞克斯大学进行了访问。访问期间，田公参与Riordan校长、Andy Downton副校长分别进行了会谈，就双边合作与交流交换了意见；在国际部官员的陪同下，田公参一行还访问了大学商学院和计算机与电子工程系，看望了在该校工作的中国教授、学者和留学生并与他们进行了座谈，详细询问了他们的工作和学习情况。

田小刚公参2009年7月8日赴莱斯特应邀出席了在De Montford大学举行的该校STRL Laboratory（软件技术研究实验室）第50名博士生毕业的庆祝仪式。De Montford大学副校长David Asch教授、副校长Vivien Lowndes教授、沙特驻英国大使馆文化参赞Ghazy A. AlMakky教授、实验室主任Hussein Zedan教授、副主任杨宏戟教授等出席了庆祝仪式。
