On Friday 20th October the Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Warwick University (CSSA Warwick) held a Welcome Forum for the new Chinese students and scholars who just start their new lives at Warwick. This marks the commencement of the serial exciting social events from the reputed CSSA Warwick.

Dr. Esther Meininger, the welfare officer of International Office of the University of Wariwck, explained affably the services of visa, welfare support and host programs provided by them. Dr ShengCai Li, professor of Hydraulic Machinery and PhD (Beijing and Warwick), shared with attendees the experiences of studying abroad, as well as the origins of Chinese translation of the University’s name – “Hua Wei”. The character “Hua” refers to China, and “Wei” refers to the prosperous future of the University, connecting Chinese in Warwick and the University of Warwick literally by lucky coincidence. Dr Tian Hong Loh who is from the UK National Physical Laboratory, and Dr Junlong Zhang who is the lecturer in Molecular Endocrinology at University’s Medical School, shared their life stories and encouraged the audience to realize their aspirations. They also shared useful information about doing academic research in Warwick and finding jobs in UK.

Thanks to the sponsorship and supportiveness of the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom, the International Office, Wing Wah Chinese Restaurant and Wang Dynasty Travel Group, attendees enjoyed free food and drinks, and some of them were lucky enough to win vouchers and discounted airline tickets during the Luck Draw.

First established in 1986, CSSA Warwick witnessed the fast and exceptional maturing of Warwick as a University which is just forty years old. This semester, CSSA Warwick will organize events such as Academic Forum, Sports Championship, British Cultural Tours, Famous Enterprise Visits, Karaoke contest, New Year party and many more.
