The Photonics Group within Business Unit Networks Product Design Unit Optical UK carries out photonic component design-in and photonic system tests for the Multihaul 3000 DWDM transport platform. This platform offers network operators a flexible transport solution across the access, metro and core application domains. It is a world leading product that has been deployed by a number of international carriers and it continues to evolve to meet the ongoing transport challenges of next generation optical networks. The Photonics Group is a key R&D contributor to these activities, validating the performance of the latest technologies in a system environment.
ROLE OUTLINE
In this role, you will be based in our Coventry Development Facility and will need to take leadership of the projects you work on. You will be a member of a dynamic team that implement new technologies and your activities will be likely to range from procurement specification and component evaluation to transmission testing using a re-circulating loop and the Multihaul transport platform. This will require you to design and carry out your own development and test regimes with a sound scientific judgement, and to share the findings in reports and management meetings. You will need to work closely with other divisions including Strategy, System Design, Software and Product Realisation and build relationships across other Ericsson development teams both in the UK and overseas. You will also need to build strong supplier relationships to ensure timely support for your activities and maintain an awareness of ongoing technology trends and research. Your work is also likely to contribute to Ericsson's Intellectual Property portfolio, and you will be expected to identify patentable opportunities arising from your work. You will be educated to at least degree level in either Physics or Electronic Engineering and will have post graduate or industrial experience of DWDM optical transmission systems.
You will have an aptitude for hands on working in a laboratory test environment and experience of test automation would be an advantage. You will have a strong drive for results, a willingness to learn new things and an ability to take initiatives. A key to success in this role will be strong interpersonal and communication skills.
